Watershed on Wheels

Watershed on Wheels - USFWS.The Watershed on Wheels (WoW Express) is the mobile visitor center for the Silvio O. Conte National Fish and Wildlife Refuge.

In addition to attending local fairs and festivals throughout the Connecticut River watershed, the WoW Express also has a free environmental education program tied to state and national science standards for 3rd-5th grades about rivers, adaptations, and habitats. For more information or to schedule a visit, please contact the Watershed on Wheels Coordinator at (413) 658-5403.

At most schools, the WoW Express program has three stations. The first, a hands-on water table which exhibits river formation and informs students of the history of the Connecticut River. A second station, the Conte Case, is a hands-on exploration of nature artifacts, ranging from mammal skulls to feathers and antlers, giving students the opportunity to explore animal adaptations. Finally, an immersion trailer showing model animals in the habitats you might find them brings everything together and highlights the interconnectedness of the Connecticut River watershed.
