A portion of the "Wildlife Drive" auto tour route is under construction and is closed to the public. This affects stops 5, 6, and 7 of the tour route. Mud Lake Dike is currently being rebuilt after multiple years of flood damage. Pending spring weather conditions and run-off, the project should tentatively be completed in summer 2014.
Sand Lake NWR provides critical habitat for nesting & feeding waterfowl, like this blue-winged teal, during breeding and migration.
