To protect habitat and keep San Diego Bay National Wildlife Refuge a safe place for wildlife and people, please follow these simple rules:

Dogs must be kept on a 6-foot leash and under control of the owner at all times, and on trail only.
Camping, open fires, and fireworks are prohibited.
Hunting is not permitted.
No horses, all terrain vehicles, motorcycles, or dirt bikes are allowed on the bike trail or refuge.
Disturbing or collecting any plant or animal is prohibited.
Looking for and/or collecting artifacts is not allowed.
San Diego Bay National Wildlife Refuge should be a quiet place to enjoy nature--leave fireworks, loud radios, and other sound equipment at home.
Swimming, personal watercraft (i.e., jet ski) and water skiing are not allowed on the refuge.
Take all litter with you.

What We Do

Belding's Savannah Sparrow

Belding's savannah sparrow is a State and Federally protected bird. It is a rare subspecies of the Savannah sparrow, however it is common on the marshes of San Diego Bay, and the Tijuana Slough National Wildlife Refuge. It is distinguished from the Savannah sparrow by having heavier and darker streaking, and a smaller beak profile.
