Refuge Law Enforcement Staff as of 2011

The National Wildlife Refuge System's Law Enforcement Division is responsible for physical security and emergency management on FWS lands. Refuge law enforcement officers have federal jurisdiction to enforce federal conservation laws throughout the United States. Officers deal with a wide variety of crimes, including but not limited to:

 
Natural resource violations 
Traffic violations 
Crimes against people 
Crimes against property 
Homeland security issues 
Smuggling 

 
Law enforcement officers on the San Diego Refuges work to minimize unauthorized urban and human-caused impacts to wildlife. Refuge officers work in partnership with other state, local, and regional agencies to help the San Diego National Wildlife Refuge Complex achieve its mission and its goals.
