A singing Painted Bunting was observed on May 10, presumably on territory, northwest of Quivira, 1.5 miles north of NE 170th St. A Painted Bunting was seen at this same location in 2011.

Wilson Snipe have been moving through in good numbers in early April, with several doing aerial displays north of Big Salt Marsh. This bird was very interested in the displays on 8 April.
Cinnamon Teal thumb
The Cinnamon Teal is an occasional migrant at Quivira. In spring, there are usually several sightings from March through early May.
Lark Bunting thumb
Lark Buntings are occasional migrants. This one was photographed on 11 March 2012. One bird actually overwintered during 2011-2012.

Common birds of the southwestern U.S., Say's Phoebes occur regularly each spring and fall at Quivira. This one was photographed at Quivira on 23 September 2011.

White winged Dove thumb
Another southwestern species, the White-winged Dove rarely occurs at Quivira. This one was photographed in a grove on the east side of Quivira on 12 May 2011.
Whooping Crane pair thumb
Whooping Cranes are regular migrants annually in spring and fall. Winter 2011-2012 brought unprecedented appearances of the birds at Quivira in late December and January.
