Wildlife & Habitat
Mortenson Lake NWR is one of three refuges in the Laramie Plains. In addition to protecting habitat for the endangered Wyoming toad the Refuge also provides habitat for migratory birds. The wetlands serve as resting. feeding, and breeding areas for numerous waterfowl and shorebird species, such as the northern pintail, canvasback (above) and American avocet. Habitat types include open water, wetlands, wet meadow, grassland, sagebrush, and greasewood communities.
