Rules and Regulations

There are a lot of fun, interesting, and educational opportunities on the McFaddin National Wildlife Refuge. 

Please check with the refuge before participating in an activity that could harm the environment or yourself.  There are a lot of activities at McFaddin National Wildlife Refuge for you to enjoy.  Be safe and have fun! 

  • Visitors are encouraged to stop at the entrance kiosks for information about the refuge.
  • The refuge is open from sunrise until sunset daily.   Special regulations are in effect during the waterfowl hunting season.  
  • Visitors must stay on designated roads and trails.
  • Pets must be leashed at all times.
  • Observe speed limits and watch for wildlife crossing roadways.
  • Collection of plants or animals, and feeding or disturbing wildlife is prohibited.
  • Fireworks and recordings to attract wildlife are prohibited.
  • No facilities or hook-ups are available.
  • All-terrain vehicles, airboats and personal watercraft (wave-runners) are prohibited.
  • All boat motors greater that 25 HP and with more than a 9inch propeller, are prohibited.

For your Safety and Comfort 

  • Please be aware that alligators, snakes, fire ants, and mosquitoes all make their home here on the refuge.
  • Do not feed or approach alligators and other wildlife.
  • Restrooms are located at the main entrance near the entrance kiosks.
  • There is no drinking water available on the refuge.   Please come prepared.
