Get Involved

Monarch ButterflyMore than 42,000 people volunteer their time and ideas each year to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.  Whether they work on the land, in a visitor center or with youth, they contribute to the conservation mission that reaches back more than a century.  Become a volunteer to contribute your strength on behalf of America’s natural resources.

We have a variety of volunteer opportunities on the district, including hand harvesting native seeds, controlling invasive plants and conducting bird and plant surveys. Generally, these opportunities involve 1-day commitments. To volunteer at the Iowa Wetland Management District, contact the Union Slough National Wildlife Refuge office at 515-928-2523 or unionslough@fws.gov.
