Elepaio on branch with leavesThe Friends of Hakalau Forest NWR was started in 2006 to support the work of the refuge - to protect and restore the native forest ecosystem and habitat for native Hawaiian birds. Nationwide, friends groups assist refuges in many ways, such as raising money, channeling volunteers, taking on small projects, and building public awareness of these unique areas. Those of you who have not been to the refuge might also be interested in joining because of your interest in conservation of Hawaiian ecosystems.

The Friends of Hakalau Forest can help to continue and even expand programs at the Refuge but your help is needed. The support from more members is crucial to ensure the sustainability of our goals. Friends of Hakalau Forest has already begun plans for two interpretive areas on the refuge, and has received donations for the greenhouse and nēnē projects. Help is needed to keep the forest growing and the birds thriving. Please consider joining as a member and lending your support to this magnificent place.
