This migratory grassland sparrow hides its tiny nest in the dead grasses of the open prairies. It spends the summer on the refuge feeding on insects and spiders. Although Breeding Bird Surveys indicate their numbers have declined in the U.S. it can be heard singing on the prairies of Glacial Ridge National Wildlife Refuge.
