Prescribed fire and oak savanna restoration are major management priorities on the refuge. Exotic tree species like Siberian elm and black locust are invasive, and refuge staff use both mechanical and chemical treatments to remove them and prevent their regrowth. Regular surveys and censuses are conducted to monitor wildlife populations and the health of native vegetation, and results help direct future management activities.
