Many of the activities that visitors enjoy on the Refuge require both an entrance pass and an additional permit. Hunting in the restricted portions of the Refuge requires a hunting permit that is available through the Illinois Department of Natural Resources. Trapping requires a special use permit issued by the Refuge manager. Fishing contests require special use permits from the Refuge. Firewood cutting permits may also be obtained from the Refuge. Special use permit applications can be made at the visitor center.

Hunting Regulations and General Hunt Permit: The Refuge requires ALL hunters to carry a signed Refuge General Hunt Permit stating that they have read and understand the refuge hunting regulations.  To print or download the Hunting and Public Use Regulations General Hunter Permit click here.
