Alternative Transportation Planning

The Chincoteague National Wildlife Refuge, Assateague Island National Seashore, Town of Chincoteague, and Accomack County worked with the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Volpe Center on an alternative transportation study. The study, which took about a year to complete, aimed to objectively analyze different ways to address transportation problems -- including beach access, traffic, and parking. The research study was informed by ideas and comments from the public, as well as analysis of data and information about traffic, transportation, and other factors.

Documents with information from the public meetings held on October 16th, 2008 and January 17, 2009 are available under Project Documents below. The Chincoteague National Wildlife Refuge, Assateague Island National Seashore, Town of Chincoteague, and Accomack County worked with the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Volpe Center on an alternative transportation study.
