Deer_512x219National Wildlife Refuges work closely with other researchers, Universities and science-based organizations interested in supporting the agency’s wildlife conservation mission.

The following are some of the recent research projects conducted on the Buffalo Lake National Wildlife Refuge.

  • Mourning dove banding to determine migratory patterns (in cooperation with Texas Parks and Wildlife Department). 
  • White-tailed deer and mule deer sampling for chronic wasting disease (in cooperation with Texas Parks and Wildlife Department). 
  • Monitoring prairie dog population for indication of infectious disease and radiation levels (in cooperation with Pantex)
