Attwater Prairie Chicken National Wildlife Refuge is home to an incredible variety of wildlife species that depend on the diversity of habitat conserved and protected on the refuge.
Though established for the benefit of the Attwater's prairie-chicken, the refuge is host or home to many other wildlife species found on this prairie.
Native coastal prairie is so rare today that very few people have ever seen it in person, and so diverse that few people can identify all the plants that naturally occur there.
