Public Lands Day
September 26th, 2009 is Public Lands Day. On this day, thousands of volunteers across the nation unite to help our public lands. Everything from planting trees, to picking up litter is done by volunteers wanting to make our world a better place. At the Reelfoot National Wildlife Refuge, 7 cubscouts and their families arrived to help build crappie beds for our refuge ponds. These crappie beds will give fish a place to spawn, small fish a place to hide, and larger fish a bite to eat. This will be our first structure we have built to place in our ponds. Our long term goals are to have better fishing during annual fishing rodeo we host in the first week of June for Free Fishing and Boating Week. Thanks for all of the hard work from our Cubscouts, pack 551: Alec Britton, Cody Elks, Garrett Morgan, Jake Smith, Dalton Morgan, Troy Davis and Cory Elks. These boys worked very hard on a Saturday morning to help improve Reelfoot National Wildlife Refuge. Also, thanks to the parents/leaders; Chad Elks, Michelle Elks, Jennifer Davis, Greg Morgan, John Smith and Larry Britton. This couldn't have been done without you showing an interest in getting children outdoors! Learn more about Public Lands Day!
