Teacher Workshop

July 23, 2009
9:00 A.M.- 4:00 P.M. Pocosin Lakes National Wildlife Refuge Columbia, NC

Dear Educator,

Did you know that northeastern North Carolina is home to the world’s only wild population of red wolves? The endangered red wolf is present in portions of Dare, Tyrrell, Hyde, Washington, and Beaufort Counties.

Come to the heart of red wolf country to learn about North Carolina’s most endangered canid! The Red Wolf Recovery Program Educator Workshop will cover the basics of red wolf biology and conservation and introduce educators to the K-8 curriculum, “Far Traveler. “ The workshop will focus on concepts such as food webs, habitat, endangered species, wildlife management, and conflict-resolution regarding wildlife in communities. Participants will discuss activities from the curriculum as well as taking a field trip to identify and cast red wolf tracks in Pocosin Lakes National Wildlife Refuge. Educators will receive a curriculum guide.

This free workshop is offered by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Red Wolf Recovery Program. Advanced registration is encouraged due to limited space.
For information and registration, please contact Diane Hendry, Red Wolf Recovery Program Outreach Coordinator, at (252) 473-1131 x 246 or e-mail: diane_hendry@fws.gov.
