The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service has developed a conservation and recovery strategy for the Red-cockaded Woodpecker that includes the participation of other federal and state agencies and private landowners. The recovery strategy involves many components, including comprehensive management plans for federal and state properties and numerous conservation partnerships with private landowners, small and large. In addition to habitat management programs, conservation and ultimately recovery of listed species requires public interest, involvement, and support. The Clemson (Red-cockaded Woodpecker) Field Office of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service in cooperation with the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation has established a Red-cockaded Woodpecker Conservation Fund as a means to facilitate public support of Red-cockaded Woodpecker recovery. This fund was established in 1998 with the $15,000 received by Ralph Costa as the 1998 recipient of the Foundation's Chuck Yeager Award.
"Nesting Time", by Patricia Savage, was commissioned and produced with money from the Fund. Your purchase of a reproduction is directly contributing $100.00 (print) or $150.00 (proof) to the Fund. Your contribution, along with others, will be used to support existing and/or establish new conservation programs, improve or restore habitat, conduct monitoring and/or research projects, and develop public education and outreach activities. By purchasing a print or proof you will take advantage of a rare opportunity to own beautiful art and at the same time truly make a difference in the preservation of this rare and wonderful bird.
