Weseman Waterfowl Production Area
Location: 9 miles west and 4 miles south of Hastings, Nebraska
Size: 160acres: 80 acres of wetland, 80 acres of upland
Recent Management: In the mid-1990's the property was purchased by The Nature Conservancy through a cooperative effort with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and the Rainwater Basin Joint Venture. At the time of acquisition, there existed a linear water concentration pit along the southern edge of the boundary.
Restoration work included filling the pit (except for a small deep area in the southeast corner) and reseeding the uplands to native grasses. A parking lot was installed on east side. Through the years, the grass has been allowed to establish with annual control of noxious weeds.
Wet conditions exist only after heavy precipitation events or snow melts.
