Species
inhabits the coastal areas of Southern New England and the New York Bight. With awareness and dedication we can help protect these species and their habitats, and ensure that they'll have an enduring place on the land, in the sea, and across the sky. We must combine our resources. We must work together. That is the spirit of the Coastal Program. Species Groups:
Endangered and Threatened (Listed) Species
Endangered Species Act:
· conserve endangered species or threatened species,Definition: The Act defines an endangered species as one in danger of extinction throughout all or a significant portion of its range. A threatened species is any species likely to become endangered within the foreseeable future throughout all or a significant portion of its range. The Act requires that listing decisions be based
on the best scientific and commercial data available, without regard to
possible economic or other impacts of such determinations.
