Purple LoosestrifeCooperating with the Vermont Department of Environmental Conservation, the Partners for Fish and Wildlife propagated and released over 40,000 beetles (Galerucella spp.) to control purple loosestrife infestations. This will result in the eventual enhancement of 222 acres of impacted wetlands at 22 different sites throughout the state. Overwinter survival of the insects has been excellent with significant reduction in purple loosestrife abundance occurring in the third season after release. U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service |
