Abstract:
We assembled data characterizing shellfish beds within the Gulf of Maine study area, then scored or
classified those areas according to the specificity of the data; see
also: shellfish_data_methods.htm
Purpose:
The Gulf of Maine Habitat Mapping Project used environmental and occurrence information
to map potential habitat for 63 species of primary concern to the U.S. Fish and
Wildlife Service. Shellfish beds are important food items for waterfowl and seabirds, and so of interest
when mapping habitats for those birds.
