Habitats

The SNEP office's 7-state program area includes many
unique and rich habitat types
of overall regional or national significance
to fish, wildlife, and plants.

Species distribution correlates with significant landscape features, such as landforms, hydrology, wetlands, geology, and open space.  Some habitats support disproportionately large numbers or densities of species, and others harbor extant populations of rare species. In some cases, the habitat is itself disappearing.

The three habitat types highlighted below have been selected for the diversity and rarity of the species they support.

Calcareous Habitats
Beach Strand Habitats
Coastal Grasslands Habitats
