Join the birding experts on Saturday morning for pastries, followed by a guided tour of the Refuge to look at the birds! This fun acitivity will be limited to 20 people so the earlier you contact the Refuge to sign up the better!

Day Off Saturday, May 10,
2008 Mother's Day Off
is an opportunity for mom's to get the kids out of the house with dad, grandpa,
or Uncle Joe. The kids and accompanying adult will join the Friends and the Staff
of Quivira National Wildlife Refuge at the Kids Fishing Pond for a morning of
fun which will be followed up by a yummy lunch prepared by the kids themselves.
In the meantime, Mom can enjoy a few well deserved hours of relaxation, reading
a book, watching a movie or just contemplating how quiet the house can really
be! Come out and join us the Saturday before Mother's day!

Fishing Clinic and Derby Saturday, June 7, 2008
Join
us for our annual Fishing Clinic and Derby. We will gather together at 9:00 a.m.
for registration. Each child will have the opportunity to learn knot tying, casting,
rules and regulations and fish identification at the Clinic. At 10:00 a.m. we
will move activites to the Kids Fishing Pond. Get in on the drawings for door
prizes and then join us for a great lunch of hot dogs, hamburgers, chips, cookies
galore and cold drinks! Preregistration is not required but greatly appreciated
to help us anticipate how many kids, moms, dads, grandparents, aunts, or uncles
will join us for lunch so that no one will go hungry! Call 620-486-2393 or

Monarch Mania Saturday, September 20, 2008
Monarch
Mania is sponsored by the Friends of Quivira and
put together by Pam Martin
of St. John. Monarch Mania is an always popular event here at Quivira. A special
program is presented and can be anything from how to garden for butterflys to
a slide show of the many different varieties of butterflys in Kansas. There are also arts and crafts for kids! We then
adjourn to the great outdoors where butterflys are netted and tagged! It is a
great time and if you would like to know more about Monarch Mania or other programs,

this years event will be posted as they become available!

The Friends of Quivira will sponsor this tour for Friends
of Quivira members only. See what the night brings out on the Refuge and watch
the stars with no city lights to ditract you! If you would like to become a member
of the Friends check out their website!
They do many things for the Refuge that we could not do alone!
