Tour groups of all sizes are welcome at any time, but encouraged to schedule at our by calling the hatchery office (360-288-2508).

KID's FISHING DAY - Kid's Fishing Day for 2006 will be postponed until further notice.  The hatchery is under new management and the event is being reviewed. It is the goal of the hatchery to provide a quality experience for all who attend.

VOLUNTEER ACTIVITIES - In addition to interpretive camp volunteers the hatchery provides local individuals the opportunity to also volunteer by assisting hatchery staff with Kid’s Fishing Day, fish production, and light maintenance activities.   All volunteers compliment our hatchery program and offer priceless support.   In fiscal year 2004 volunteers contributed 2,815 hours to visitor services, administrative support, and light maintenance.

Another outreach program involves students from the Lake Quinault School.  Each year the 4th Grade class from the school rears coho salmon in the classroom.  The students observe the daily development of salmon eggs as they slowly mature into feeding fry.  At the fry stage the students return to the hatchery to release the fry into Cook Creek so the tiny fish can over- winter and begin their migration to the ocean in subsequent years.

ENVIRONMENTAL LEADERSHIP - Knowing that an Environmental Management Plan would be a beneficial tool, the hatchery requested that our facility be one of the first within the Pacific Region to have an Environmental Management review and Plan implementation.   The staff has established a feasible, practical, and an efficient plan.   For its efforts Quinault NFH was recognized as the “Hatchery of the Year” in providing environmental leadership in recycling and management programs.  The objective of the facility’s environmental management are illustrated in the hatchery’s Environmental Management Plan (EMP) which provides a consolidated description of the environmental management system (EMS).    The plan presents the field station’s environmental management policy, identifies the key environmental aspects and impacts of its operations and presents goals and targets established to improve the field station’s environmental performance.  It describes key “elements” of the field station EMS including our personnel responsibility and accountability programs, environmental document control and information management, reporting, communication, budget, andtraining systems.  It also provides a description of monitoring, measurement and corrective action processes we have in place to assure compliance, evaluate performance against our environmental goals and targets, and improve our overall EMS.
