Fire:

Notify the fire department. Attempt to extinguish fire using extinguishers located as follows:

Spill:

Contain the flow of hazardous waste to the extent possible, and as soon as practicable, clean up the hazardous waste and any contaminated materials or soil. Materials for containing and cleaning up spills consist of the following:

HazMat (pink) Spill Kit in 65-gallon overpack                                         Inside hazardous materials building
HazMat (pink) Spill Kit in 21-gallon overpack                                         Inside shop/maintenance building
Ampho-Mag Neutralizer (6 - 3 pound shaker bottles)                              Inside hazardous materials building

Spill-X-FP Formaldehyde Spill Kit in 5-gallon pail                                   Inside hatchery building

General:

In the event of a fire, explosion or other release which could threaten human health outside the Refuge or when you have knowledge that a spill has reached surface water, immediately notify the Regional Compliance Coordinator at (555) 555-1212 and the National Response Center using their 24-hour toll free number: (800) 424-8802) to provide the following information:

1. The generator's name, address, and EPA ID number (where applicable).
2. The date, time, and type of incident (e.g., spill, fire, explosion).
3. The quantity and type of hazardous waste involved in the incident.
4. The extent of injuries, if any.
5. The estimated quantity and disposition of recovered materials, if any.

Notes:
(1) The emergency coordinator or alternate must be on site or on call (i.e. available to respond to an emergency by reaching the facility within a short period of time) and has responsibility for coordinating all emergency response measures and authority to commit the resources needed to carry out the contingency plan.
(2) Alternate emergency coordinators should be listed in the order in which they will assume responsibility as alternates.

(3) The contingency plan must be posted next to the telephone nearest the hazardous waste storage area.
