**Respirator use is required if personal exposures to vapors, fumes, dusts, etc. exceed applicable OSHA permissible exposure limits. See 242 FW 14 for respiratory protection program requirements. If employees whose exposures are within acceptable limits voluntarily choose to wear a respirator, they must review the OSHA standard for voluntary use at 29 CFR 1910.134, Appendix D.

The following standards are those that OSHA uses to determine the minimum required protection PPE must provide to be acceptable. Only purchase PPE that meets these standards.

·        ANSI Z87.1, American National Standard for Occupational and Educational Personal Eye and Face Protection Devices.

·        ANSI Z89.1, American National Standard for Industrial Head Protection.

·        American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) F2412-11, Standard Test Methods for Foot Protection, and ASTM F2413-11, Standard Specification for Performance Requirements for Protective (Safety) Toe Cap Footwear.

·        ASTM D-120-09, Standard Specifications for Rubber Insulating Gloves.
