Pocosin Lakes National Wildlife Refuge Federal Highways Administration Project
Pocosin Lakes National Wildlife Refuge is in the ending stages of a $6.5 million project being done by the Federal Highways Administration. The project was approved as a result of road damage during Hurricane Isabel several years ago.
This project, which is the second of it’s kind on Pocosin Lakes National Wildlife Refuge in recent history, will improve/rehabilitate 30+ miles of refuge roads, including Northern (5.5 miles), Nodwell (2.2 miles), Middle (2.5 miles), Phelps (< 1 mile), Seagoing (6.4 Miles), Western (2.1 miles), Harvester (2 miles), F-2 (2.3 miles), and DeHoag (7.7 miles).
As the project proceeds, roads will be opened and closed, as appropriate, to allow for public safely, as well as a safe working environment for the contractor.
The project is expected to be completed by late summer of 2008.
