Break-in and Theft Reported on Pocosin Lakes National Wildlife Refuge
Refuge Manager Howard Phillips seeks community help in identifying the person or persons who broke into the shop at the Pungo Unit of Pocosin Lakes National Wildlife Refuge on the night of June 10th. Unknown person or persons entered the back gate to the maintenance yard and broke into the main office where several items were taken, among them keys and credit card for a 2006 Ford pickup truck. In addition, a 20-foot fully-enclosed white cargo trailer was loaded up with items such as four-wheelers, marine radar equipment, and power tools. "It's possible the truck and trailer are still in the area, so we need folks to call us if they see them - or even if they think they see them. Or, it's possible the truck and the thief are long gone. If you know of someone who left town over the week-end, we'd appreciate that information. Of course, by now they have likely removed the decals and possibly even painted the truck and trailer," commented Phillips.
The vehicle and trailer descriptions are: 2006 F150 white pickup truck, License plate I486279, FWS logos on both front doors, "Fire Management" written on tailgate in red, with a winch on front bumper and a white 2001 Continental cargo trailer with "Fire Management" written on back doors in red.
Persons with any information about the incident or the locations of any of the stolen items should call Law Enforcement Officer Frank Simms at 252-216-7504 or Refuge Manager Howard Phillips at 252-796-7517.
