In the foreground (west of Evans Road) is Pocosin Lakes National Wildlife Refuge land. In the background (east of Evans Road) is private land. The boundary is the center of the Evans Road canal. The Evans Road containment line is one of the most critical lines in the Evans Road Fire due to the proximity of 70+ homes on Shore Drive (to the northwest) and 30,000+ acres of unburned pocosin habitat to the west.
