Happy New Year Refuge Volunteers!
Welcome Our New Volunteer-Volunteer Coordinator
It has been several months since I have communicated with you all because my hard drive crashed last August and I lost the entire volunteer address list and just finished rebuilding it! In the interim, you have been receiving volunteer opportunity emails from our new Volunteer-Volunteer Coordinator, Suzanne Valencia. Please accept her emails as she is making a valiant effort to support the Refuge. Suzanne has been with us for over 5 years now. On her own initiative, she started the Annual Sierra Club service trip to Pelican Island NWR, which brings 20 very energetic volunteers from across the country to our nations first wildlife refuge to cut down and remove Brazilian pepper trees. Suzanne has also taken the Refuge butterfly garden, created by Pelican Island Elementary School kids, under her wing. Recently, Suzanne volunteered to assist us with volunteer recruitment and coordination as our staff gets smaller. I urge you to help us through her volunteer recruitment efforts. She is truly and amazing woman to work with and an exemplary volunteer!Saturday, March 10 Pelican Island Wildlife Festival
Approximately 150 volunteers are needed to assist us with this event in Sebastian's Riverview Park. Volunteer help is needed for parking, set-up and break-down, staffing Refuge booths, assisting with raffle sales, volunteer check-in, staffing the photography contest tent, wearing character costumes, exhibitor check-in, boat tour guides, and more. Contact the Refuge at the number above if you would like to help us execute this event! Volunteer now: www.pelicanislandfriends.org/2007fest-index.htm
