Federal
Assistance
The U.S. Fish and
Wildlife Service Federal Aid Division works with fish and wildlife agencies
in American Samoa, Guam, Hawai`i and the Northern Mariana Islands to restore
and manage their fish and wildlife resources.
Federal Aid grants are funded through the Sport Fish Restoration and Wildlife
Restoration Acts, the Endangered Species Act, the Coastal Wetlands Planning,
Protection and Restoration Act, Partnerships for Wildlife Act, and the
Clean Vessel Act. Sport fishing and wildlife restoration projects are
funded by Federal excise taxes on hunting and fishing equipment, import
duties on fishing tackle and pleasure boats, and a portion of the Federal
fuel tax.
