Kaua`i is also known as the "Garden Isle" for its lush vegetation and spectacular waterfalls. It is the oldest of the Hawaiian islands chain and is approximately 553 square miles in size.

The Kaua`i National Wildlife Refuge (NWR) Complex consists of Kilauea Point, Hanalei, and Huleia NWRs. Kilauea Point Refuge gets an average of 300,000 visitors a year. Forty-nine species of birds use Hanalei Refuge and 31 species of birds at Huleia.
