Purpose of the CCP:
As part of the National Wildlife Refuge System, the Keālia Pond and Kakahai'a Refuges are required to have a CCP in place to guide the management of fish, wildlife, plants, coral reefs, habitats and public uses for a period of 15 years.

A multi-year planning process has begun to develop a Comprehensive Conservation Plan (CCP) and Environmental Assessment (EA) for Keālia Pond and Kakahai'a National Wildlife Refuges (NWR). Through this webpage and local media outlets we will announce public involvement opportunities and provide access to planning documents throughout the planning process.

Planning Update 1 announces Public Open House Meetings on November 4, 2009, in Kaunakakai, HI, and November 5, 2009, in Kihei, HI. It also provides an overview of the refuges, and includes a list of potential refuge management issues we may consider during the CCP planning process.
