Purpose
of the CCP:
As
part of the National Wildlife Refuge System, the Keālia
Pond and Kakahai'a Refuges
are required to have a CCP in place to guide the management of fish, wildlife,
plants, coral reefs, habitats and public uses for a period of 15 years.

2011:The
Refuge prepared a Draft Comprehensive Conservation Plan and Environmental
Assessment for Keālia
Pond NWR and Kakahai'a
NWR.
Summaries of the Draft CCPs and EAs are in Planning
Update 4.
March
2011:
Planning Update 3 identified
draft alternatives.
February
2010:
Planning Update 2 summarized
the results of our initial public scoping efforts.
October
2009:A
multi-year planning process has begun to develop a Comprehensive Conservation
Plan (CCP) and Environmental Assessment (EA) for Keālia
Pond and Kakahai'a National
Wildlife Refuges (NWR). Through this webpage and local media outlets we
will announce public involvement opportunities and provide access to planning
documents throughout the planning process. Planning
Update 1 announced Public Open
House Meetings on November 4, 2009, in Kaunakakai, HI, and November 5,
2009, in Kihei, HI. It also provides an overview of the refuges, and includes
a list of potential refuge management issues
we may consider during the CCP planning process.
