Welcome to the Division of Planning and Visitor Services

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service's Pacific Region manages National Wildlife Refuges in four western states and the Pacific Island Territories. This Division supports the Region's refuges by providing planning and other services which ensure that each refuge contributes to the mission and goals of the National Wildlife Refuge System. Our focus is on four primary types of refuge planning—refuge management, visitor services, refuge roads, and refuge expansion. We focused on refuge management plans— known as Comprehensive Conservation Plans—for this website; past Refuge System expansion projects are also part of this website. Webpages for visitor services and refuge roads will be developed in the near future.

We greatly appreciate public support for wildlife refuges, and engaging the public and partner agencies in refuge planning is a priority for us. Your involvement and input is integral to progressive refuge management, outreach, and policy development.
We establish a mailing list for each project. To be added to a mailing list or for further information please contact FW1PlanningComments@fws.gov. Specify the project that interests you in the subject line.

Why Plannning is Important
To evaluate the effects of refuge management actions on wildlife, habitat, and people, we complete a detailed planning and public involvement process for every unit of the National Wildlife Refuge System. Planning contributes to informed decision-making that recognizes the needs and interests of all parties.
We Need Your Help

Your input helps us identify the issues, alternatives, and solutions that make the Refuge System work for both wildlife and people.
