Trained raptors can be an effective method to reduce or abate damage and safety problems caused by birds or other wildlife. This permit authorizes possession of trained captive-bred, federally protected raptors (and hybrids) for abatement purposes.

You must be a Master falconer to hold an abatement permit. General and apprentice falconers can be listed as subpermittees for abatement work.
- An abatement permit is required to use raptors to reduce wildlife damage, whether or not the wildlife are protected. The abatement permit authorizes the possession and use of federally protected raptors, not the take of the wildlife causing damage. This permit does not authorize raptors to kill or injure federally protected birds.
