The Southern California RAC subdistrict office is located in Torrance, California. It encompasses an ecologically diverse area which includes rugged coastline, snow-capped mountains, agricultural and dairy farms, high and low desert areas, national forests, wildlife/marine refuges and preserves, military bases, man-made and natural lakes and dams, the Salton Sea, and approximately 150 miles of open land abutting the border of Mexico. The diversity of the southern California area provides habitat for state and federally listed high-profile species including, but not limited to, the Southern Sea Otter, California Condor, Brown Pelican, and the Desert Bighorn Sheep. Southern California is home to 272 listed endangered and threatened plants and animals.
