Social media campaign highlights plight of the Pacific lamprey

The Pacific lamprey is one of the oldest species on Earth but apart from the fish's significance to Native American tribes, most people know very little about it. The Fish and Wildlife Service's Pacific Region Fisheries Program hopes to change that with a social media campaign called Luna the Lamprey: The Story of a "Forgotten Fish." The campaign will follow the journey of a fictional adult Pacific lamprey and her virtual associates as they struggle for survival in the Columbia River and its tributaries in Oregon, Washington and Idaho. Using multimedia and social media tools, the campaign will chronicle the history, biology, human and cultural connections and survival threats that until recently have received litle attention.
