National Fishing and Boating WeekToday's families are busier than ever. Studies show that American families face many challenges when it comes to spending time together. Parents work long hours, children spend more time alone without their parents, and important family outings get put on the back burner. The National Fishing and Boating Week celebration, held annually in June, can help bring families together. These special community events serve as a catalyst to bring families together to share fun and quality time while learning about two of our nation's favorite pastimes: recreational fishing and boating. Lessons about life and the importance of nature and aquatic resources are often learned and passed on between generations while sharing experiences around water. National Fishing and Boating Week events hosted by the Fish and Wildlife Service's Fisheries Program provide people of all ages wonderful opportunities to learn about fish and fishing. Education about natural resources, angling ethics, knot tying, catch and release methods, and fishing and boating equipment can be found at any one of the hundreds of planned fishing week programs. National Fishing and Boating Week events bring fun, exciting, and enriching experiences for the entire family! To help you plan a special family fishing trip in June, visit the National Fishing and Boating Week website at www.nationalfishingandboatingweek.org, or call your local National Fish Hatchery or Fishery Resource Office (see our facilities map) and learn about the event nearest you! |
