Affirmative employment is a legal requirement which mandates that agencies make good faith efforts to recruit, employ, train, promote and retain members of underrepresented groups, and to identify and remove barriers that impede employment opportunities.
The AEP requires a process which includes self-analysis, problem identification, data collection, policy statements, reporting systems, and goals identifying the elimination of discriminatory policies and practices, past and present. Such a program does not contemplate and shall not include any preferential treatment of any person on the basis of race, color, national origin, religion, sex, age or disability.
