Stakeholder News

In June 2009, the Review Team completed their review of the Lower
Snake River National Fish Hatcheries (NFH) including programs at
Dworshak NFH, Kooskia NFH and Hagerman NFH. This concluded the Review
Team's assessments of all NFH programs in the Pacific Region of the
Fish and Wildlife Service. Final reports and recommendations for
the Lower Snake NFHs, Olympic Peninsula NFHs, and for Warm Springs
NFH in the Deschutes Basin, the Leavenworth NFH Complex in eastern
Washington, Eagle Creek NFH in the Clackamas River Basin, and the
Columbia River Gorge NFHs are available on the Reports & Publications
page. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is beginning the
implementation process for recommendations at these facilities.
The Review Team is now conducting reviews of Lower Snake River Compensation
Plan (LSRCP) hatchery facilities in Idaho, Oregon, and Washington.
Draft reports for the Idaho and Washington LSRCP Fish Hatcheries
are currently available on this website. The Team will finalize the
Idaho report by the end of this year and the Washington report early
next year.
As part of the hatchery review process, the Review Team will be
holding a public stakeholder meeting to discuss the Team's assessment
of the Oregon Lower Snake River Compensation Plan (LSRCP) fish hatchery
programs located at Lookingglass, Irrigon, and Wallowa Fish Hatcheries
and their satellite juvenile acclimation and adult recapture facilities.
The purpose of this meeting is for the Hatchery Review Team to present
an overview of the review process and introduce details of their
Oregon LSRCP assessments and recommendations report. This meeting
will provide the public with an opportunity to discuss and provide
initial feedback about the report and its draft recommendations to
members of the Hatchery Review Team.
The meeting will take place Tuesday, December 8th, 2009 from 2:00
pm - 4:00 pm at the Oxford
Suites Hotel in Pendleton, OR (click
on the hotel link for directions). Please RSVP to Michael Schmidt,
the Review Team's facilitator, at
mschmidt@lltk.org. If you
would like to attend but cannot make a mid-day meeting, please let
Michael know. If there is substantial interest in an evening meeting,
the Team will schedule a second 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm meeting time.
You have the opportunity to offer verbal comments at the stakeholder
meeting or to submit written comments concerning the draft report
during the 30 day public review period that concludes on January
7, 2010.
