Climate Science: Regional climate models newly available for Western U.S.

These models cover a limited area of the globe and therefore run at much finer spatial resolution and can simulate the interactions between large-scale weather patterns and local terrain features not resolved by global models. See Salathe et al. 2010, Regional climate model projections for the State of Washington. This approach differs from the downscaling of global climate models such as those published by Mote, and Salathe, 2010, Future climate in the Pacific Northwest. Both approaches provide projections of future climate change useful for regional strategies and decision making.
