Human Dimensions of Climate Change in the Pacific Northwest

Learn about how climate change impacts ecosystem services, human health, cultural resources and other climate concerns

Ecosystem Services

Ecosystem services are the benefits human receive from natural ecosystem functions. For example, we benefit from the water cycling processes that occur in a watershed and produce clean drinking water. We also benefit from the pollination services provided by native bees, insects, bats and birds that produce fruit and vegetables. There are many examples of how humans benefit and depend on ecosystem services and with the threat of climate change many of these services will be effected.
