Advice from previous Greenspaces grant project managers about ...

Volunteers

  • Volunteers are the key to success for Greenspaces projects: they are essential for accomplishing short term on-the-ground work as well as long term assistance with planning and coordination.

  • All volunteers need guidance, instruction, support, and encouragement.

  • Volunteers offer the most when the project background and goals are well understood.

  • Tasks assigned to volunteers should be specific and doable.

  • Look for volunteers who live near the project site to assist with tasks such as monitoring, maintenance, and storage of tools and materials.

  • Inviting volunteers to assist with the project design helps to build interest and commitment.

  • Have a back up source of labor in case tasks do not get completed by volunteers during work parties.
