Advice from previous Greenspaces grant project managers about ...

Design

  • It is better to accomplish a smaller, well designed project than becoming overwhelmed with a larger project and risking quality.

  • Consider the wide array of off_site factors when designing a project, i.e. current and future land uses; transportation and storm water issues; adjacent site conditions; etc.

  • Be flexible and allow for plan refinement as new ideas and information becomes available.

  • Look for opportunities to salvage local materials, such as plants and woody debris, at development sites.

  • Park maintenance staff can offer valuable design input.

  • Look into the availability of plant materials when designing the project, and seek local plant stock.

  • Realize there are many experts, many ways of doing restoration, and not everyone will agree.
