The Fish and Wildlife Service:

Assists the Corps of Engineers (Corps) in the planning, design, and implementation of flood control projects and in the operation and maintenance activities associated with these projects once they are constructed.

Assists the Corps with the planning, design, implementation, and monitoring of fish and wildlife habitat restoration projects.

Serves as a liason for coordinating the evaluation of project impacts by State and Federal agencies such as the National Marine Fisheries Service and the Oregon and (for Columbia River projects) Washington Departments of Fish and Wildlife.

Provides recommendations to ensure equal consideration for fish and wildlife resources, including measures to avoid, minimize, and compensate for adverse impacts to fish and wildlife caused by development projects, in accordance with the Service's Mitigation Policy (federal Register 46:15; January 23, 1981).
