Amphibian Surveys

In summer of 2007, several elementary, middle and high school students assisted us with our amphibian surveys at the Tualatin River National Wildlife Refuge.   The kids helped us collect frogs for our survey to detect malformations in metamorphosing frogs, as part of a nationwide effort to gather information on the occurrence of abnormal frogs on refuge lands.  On this particular survey, one malformed bullfrog was found.

We greatly appreciate the volunteers who helped. They learned a lot, the work they did was valuable, and their experience was memorable.

One high school student, an exchange student from Brazil, excitedly proclaimed that it was the first time she'd ever touched a frog. An elementary school child summed it up for the other volunteers when she described the experience as, “Awesome!!!."
