Grotto Cave near the refuge Nature Center is the site of a 3,000-year-old Chamorro fishing camp. The tree is a Ficus prolixa, called Trongkun Nunu in Chamorro, and banyan or strangler fig in English. It is considered a sacred tree, believed to be the dwelling place of the ancestral spirits. Its roots are used in traditional healing.
