Grassland Birds

Quail 508x457Kirwin National Wildlife Refuge provides habitat for native grassland birds that prefer both tall grass and short grass environments.

Kirwin National Wildlife Refuge is home to many varieties of grassland birds, most notably the Greater Prairie Chicken, Bobwhite Quail, Upland Sandpiper, and Dickcissel.  Many non-native birds such as ring-neck pheasant also favor the habitat conditions on the refuge.
