 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 22: Migration from the Ground Up: Using Field, Laboratory, and Radar Techniques to Investigate Landbird Ecology and Migration Along the Upper Mississippi River, presented by Biologist Melissa Meier.Melissa was the lead field biologist for this five-year study, which sought to understand if the abundance and species composition of spring migrants differ between floodplain and upland forests; if there are patterns in the timing of migration among species using the Upper Mississippi River; if there are specific sites that are more important to migrating birds than others; and if birds captured in different habitats demonstrate differences in physiological condition.
